Goal:‘To be a strong and effective voice within the international programme of UNESCO and to advance New Zealand and Pacific priorities, values and good practices.'Strong and consistent international engagement is critical to the National Commission’s ability to contribute effectively to the development of UNESCO’s international programmes and to advance the interests of New Zealand and the Pacific within UNESCO. A major focal point for this international engagement is New Zealand’s presence at the UNESCO General Conference in Paris every two years. The General Conference is New Zealand and the National Commission’s opportunity to showcase itself internationally, to build a positive and dynamic profile and to develop and to consolidate networks with those who share our interests and who are willing to work together to advance common goals. It is where Pacific interests can be promoted alongside New Zealand’s and Pacific strategies and partnerships supported. Historically, New Zealand has also sought and accepted leadership positions in UNESCO subsidiary organs, including in recent years, the International Bioethics Council, the Information for All Programme Council and the World Heritage Committee. |
